STOCKTON'S JAMES PROMOTED TO DEAN OF ATHLETICS AND RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS |

Larry James has been elevated to the newly created position of Dean of
Athletics and Recreational Programs and Services at Richard Stockton
College. The
move was approved by the Stockton Board of Trustees at its most recent
meeting and took effect on December 5. James previously served as the Associate Dean of Students/Director
of Athletics and Recreation. While
remaining as the head of the Office of Athletics and Recreation, James now
has additional duties within the College, including supervisory
responsibility for the Office of Event Services. James
has been at Stockton since 1972 and overseen the steady growth of the
Osprey athletics and recreation program over the past 30 years. He helped spearhead
Stockton's most prosperous period of athletic growth which culminated in the construction of
the 70,000-square foot Sports Center that opened in 2000. With the addition of women’s tennis in 2001 and field hockey in
2002, Stockton has expanded its intercollegiate athletic program to 17sports under James’ leadership. In addition to his efforts at Stockton, James also serves as chair of the USA Track & Field Budget and Finance Committee and has been chosen to act as Head Men’s Manager for the 2003 Outdoor World Track & Field Championships in France next summer. As a competitor, James won a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics as a member of the USA 4x400-meter relay team. He also captured a silver medal in the 400-meter dash during the Mexico City games. Civically, James presently serves on the Board of Trustees of AtlantiCare Health Services and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City, the United Way of Atlantic County and the New Jersey Sports Hall of Fame. |
