GRANT NAMED NEW DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY


IN HER 19TH YEAR OF SERVICE, FORMER WPU ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR ELEVATED TO POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

n her 19th year of service to William Paterson University, Sabrina Grant has been appointed as the school's new Director of Athletics.

Grant had been interim director of athletics since last July following the retirement of Art Eason, the University's director of athletics for 30 years. Grant was associate director of athletics from 1994 to 2002 and assistant director of athletics from 1983 to 1994.

"Sabrina Grant has the skills, knowledge and drive to guide our athletic department to continued success," William Paterson University President Arnold Speert said.  "She is well-respected by coaches, student athletes, colleagues throughout our campus and her peers throughout the country. Pioneer athletics is fortunate to have her as its leader and we are fortunate to have her as a colleague."

"It is always rewarding to be able to recognize we had the leadership within the athletic department to assume this important campus position," Associate Vice President/Dean of Student Development John Martone said. "Her leadership abilities exercised over the past 19 years have been recognized as she is asked to lead the department during this exciting period in William Paterson University history. I look forward to working with Ms. Grant to move the athletic department forward."

As director of athletics, Grant oversees the daily and long-term planning of the Pioneer athletic department and its 17 teams in areas including operating budget, developing and evaluating 18 full-time and 32 part-time staff members, and serving as the liaison for intercollegiate athletics on campus.

"I am extremely pleased to have been given this opportunity," Grant said. "Having been at William Paterson for 20 years, I have seen a lot of positive changes within our athletic department. With the help of our talented administrative and coaching staff, I look toward a bright future for our student-athletes and athletic programs at the University."

Grant is one of eight female athletic directors at New Jersey's 27 colleges and universities sponsoring intercollegiate athletics. She is a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Executive Committee and the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year Committee. She is also the chairperson of the NJAC Women's Tennis Committee.

Grant joined William Paterson in 1983 as the assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator in athletics after three years in a similar capacity at Brooklyn College.  In addition, she won the University's Athletic Director's Award in 2001, given annually by the director of athletics to a non-athlete for contributions made to the athletic department.

A native of Queens, NY, Grant played college tennis and graduated magna cum laude from Queens College with a B.A. in physical education in 1977. She was also named a Scholar Student-Athlete. She also earned her Master's in physical education in 1979 from Queens College, where she received a Graduate Fellowship.
