WPU'S HAYWARD NAMED NCBWA
NATIONAL HITTER OF THE WEEK

SENIOR CENTER FIELD BECOMES FIRST PIONEER TO
 WIN NCBWA NATIONAL WEEKLY HONORS

William Paterson senior center fielder Ron Hawyard was selected the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s (NCBWA’s) Division III Hitter of the Week on April 3. With his selection, Hayward became the first Pioneer ever to win the national weekly award.

The NCBWA honor added to Hayward’s litany of honors for the week ending March 30, as the senior was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Co-Division II/III Player of the Week, and the ECAC Division III Metro Region Player of the Week.

Hayward batted .706 (12-for-17) with five doubles, a triple, eight runs scored, six runs batted in and four stolen bases as the Pioneers went 4-0. He opened the week by going 4-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases in a 6-5 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on March 25. He then followed up that effort with a 3-for-3, three-run, three-RBI performance against Division II Queens College on March 26. To cap the week, he went 5-for-9 with three doubles, and three RBI in the Pioneers sweep of Rutgers-Newark.
