MARTIN & ALLEN REACH COACHING 
MILESTONES AT RAMAPO


TWO ROADRUNNER SKIPPERS REACH 300 & 100 
CAREER COACHING VICTORY MARKS RESPECTIVELY 


Ramapo head baseball coach Rich Martin and Roadrunner head softball coach Ben Allen both reached coaching milestones early in their respective 2003 seasons, as.  Martin recorded career victory number 300, while Allen reached the 100 career win plateau. 

Martin, who entered the 2003 season with a career coaching mark of  292-234, collected his 300th career win in a 7-0 victory over Felician during the Roadrunners Spring Break.

For seven years prior to joining Ramapo, he served as head baseball coach at Hofstra where he stands as the winningest coach in the history of the university. In 1993, he led his team to the East Coast Conference Championship and in 1995, recorded a school-best 27 victories en route to his 200th career victory. The following year, his team led the North Atlantic Conference in batting, home runs and runs scored. He also coached 39 players who signed professional baseball contracts and graduated 93% of his players at the university. Prior to his time at Hofstra, Martin spent five years as head coach at Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY. At Dominican, he developed the program from its inception to the point where it became NAIA District 31 champions and Region 8 runner-up for four straight years. For his efforts and achievements, Martin was named the NAIA District 31 Coach of the Year in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989 and was a finalist for the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1986, 1988 and 1989. While at Dominican, Martin produced four NAIA All-Americans, 21 NAIA Honorable Mention All-Americans, 36 All-District 31 and All-Region 8 players.

In his fifth year at the helm of the Roadrunner softball program, Allen posted his 100th win with a 2-0 victory over St. Joseph's-Patchogue at home on April 2.  

Allen was originally named interim head coach of the Ramapo program just 10 games into the 1999 season. After officially obtaining the head coaching position in 2000, Allen led his team to a 21-16 overall record, a 6-2 mark in the NJAC Blue Division, and a berth in the NJAC Championship Tournament.

Aside from coaching softball, Allen is also an assistant women's basketball coach and serves as the Ramapo Athletic Department's Coordinator of Facility/Resource Management.
