TCNJ SELECTED AS NJAC PRESEASON WOMEN'S TENNIS  FAVORITE

LIONS SEEK  FIFTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE CROWN

The College of New Jersey has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2003 New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship in a poll completed by the head coaches around the league. The Lions, who have engineered one of the most remarkable winning streaks in collegiate sports with 95 consecutive conference victories, will be seeking their 21st straight conference title. TCNJ has never lost a conference match in a streak that dates back to 1983.

Scott Dicheck, the 2002 NJAC Coach of the Year, enters his fourth year at the helm of the Lion program with a 31-13 overall record. TCNJ returns sophomore Kristen Klepacki who earned All-Conference singles honors in 2002.

Second-year program Richard Stockton, which finished tied for second last year in its first year of NJAC competition, finished second in the poll. The Ospreys return 2002 All-Conference team member junior Michelle Lilley.

Rounding out the rest of the top finishers in the preseason poll are Montclair State in third, Kean in fourth, Ramapo in fifth and Rutgers-Newark in sixth.

The New Jersey Athletic Conference does not sponsor a postseason tournament in women's tennis, meaning the regular season champion is awarded the conference crown.

League play will begin on September 9 when TCNJ travels to Kean. Conference play concludes on October 11 when Richard Stockton travels to Ramapo and TCNJ hosts Montclair State.
