TERRY SMALL NAMED NJAC COMMISSIONER

The New Jersey Athletic Conference today named Terry Small to the position of Commissioner. Small will serve as only the second Commissioner in the 17-year history of the conference. In his new position, he will oversee the administration, daily operations and publicity efforts of the 10-institutition league that has captured 40 NCAA Championships since its inception in 1985.

Small replaces Donna Ledwin, who resigned to accept a similar position with the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

“As a person who was born and raised in New Jersey, I’m extremely excited for this opportunity,” Small said upon his hiring. “The NJAC is undoubtedly one of the top NCAA conferences in the nation, and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity that I’ve been afforded and the faith the individual institutions’ administrators have exhibited in my ability and leadership.”

Most recently Small served as the Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director at Stevens Institute of Technology. Responsible for several administrative and publicity duties at Stevens, Small played a key role in the school's athletic resurgence as the Ducks captured 20 conference championships and placed nine teams in postseason play during his two-year tenure.

A 1992 graduate of Elon College with a B.A. in Communications, Small worked eight years as an athletic administrator in the City University of New York.  After originally being hired as the Sports Information Director at the College of Staten Island, Small was steadily promoted to the positions of Assistant to the Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director and Acting Director of Athletics.  Following seven years of service at CSI, Small accepted the position of Associate Athletic Director and Sports Information Director at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan.

Prior to his arrival in CUNY, Small spent two years with the public relations department of the Philadelphia Eagles.  He continues to serve as a PR consultant and radio statistician for the Eagles and has assisted the New York Yankees, the New York Jets, the United States Military Academy and the NCAA with various media events including the 1993, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 World Series.  He also has served as a member of the NCAA Division III National Baseball Committee and as the publicist for the Knickerbocker Baseball Conference.
