The William Paterson
University volleyball program has re-named its high school
volleyball tournament in honor of slain Fair Lawn police offer
MaryAnn Collura and will donate a portion of the proceeds to the
Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Pioneers’ head
coach Sandy Ferrarella recently named the tournament in honor of
Collura, a former William Paterson student and volleyball player who
served as a police officer for 18 years in her native Fair Lawn
before she was killed in the line of duty on April 17.
“I could think of
no finer way to honor my friend than to name my tournament after
her,” Ferrarella said. “This way every year all the good that she
did will be remembered. And every year a child’s dream will come
true. MaryAnn would have loved that.”
The tournament will
take place on Saturday, October 4, at the William Paterson
University Recreation Center. T-shirts will be sold at the
tournament and contributions will be accepted. A donation will then
be sent to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in honor of Collura.
