CINDY COHEN NAMED ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
OF ATHLETICS AT WILLIAM PATERSON

FORMER UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
AND LEGENDARY PRINCETON SOFTBALL COACH ADDED TO PIONEER STAFF

Cindy Cohen, a respected athletic administrator and coach, has been named associate director of athletics at William Paterson University.

Cohen will support the daily operations of the University's 17 intercollegiate programs. She will manage the budget, scheduling and travel arrangements and will be responsible for compliance and eligibility. She had
been the associate director of athletics at the University of Rochester from July 2000 to August 2003.

"Cindy will be a great addition to the athletic department and the entire William Paterson University community," William Paterson Director of Athletics Sabrina Grant said. "She will play an instrumental role in helping to shape the future of Pioneer athletics."

"We are extremely pleased that someone with her experience as a coach and an athletic administrator is joining the Pioneers' athletic department," said Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Development John Martone.

Cohen enjoyed a distinguished career as the Princeton University softball coach from 1982-2000. She posted a career record of 560-277-2 (.669 winning percentage) to become the Tigers' all-time leader in coaching victories, and also won 12 Ivy League championships while guiding her program to the NCAA
Women's College World Series in 1995 and 1996. In addition, she coached four All-Americans, 45 All-Region players, 11 Academic All-Americans and one Rhodes Scholar. Furthermore, 100 percent of her players graduated.

Cohen served on the NCAA Division I Softball Committee from 1992-98, and as chairperson from 1994-98. She developed and implemented event management policies and procedures, helped select the NCAA tournament field and was the spokesperson for the NCAA Committee with national and local media. Her
biggest accomplishment, however, was her involvement in expanding the tournament field from 32 teams to 48.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to work at William Paterson," Cohen said. "I'm impressed with the leadership and dedication of everyone I've met and I am looking forward to being part of a team dedicated to excellence."

Cohen graduated from Temple University cum laude in 1978 with a B.S. in health, physical education and recreation. She received her Master's in health education from Trenton State College in 1980.
