The Kean men's basketball program introduced its "2003-2004 Dream to Read" program at the Harrison Elementary School in Roselle, New Jersey on October 3. The Dream to Read Program is designed for Kean student-athletes to talk about the importance of continuing education through good reading habits to elementary school students. ”The Dream to Read Program accomplishes several different goals for our student-athletes and the children of the community,” said head coach Bruce Hamburger. “We are able to reinforce the importance of reading skills to the young students, while enhancing the overall experience for the student-athlete and encouraging them to reach out and give back to the community.” Hamburger and assistant coach Joe Ansaldi led 10 members of the 2003-04 basketball team to the Roselle school Participating Cougar student-athletes included senior Rich Harrell; junior Matt Horton; sophomores BJ Hamby, Danny Del Valle, Armet Coles, Tommy McDonough; and freshman Kerry Foderingham, Bryan Miller, Machel Barnes and Matt Betz. The National Association Basketball Coaches started the program several years ago, which focused on teaching inner city kids the importance of improving reading skills. Charles Brock, Head Coach at Springfield College originally pioneered the "Dream to Read" program.. |
