FORMER KEAN BASKETBALL STANDOUT ABDULLAH PLAYING PROFESSIONALLY IN THE NETHERLANDS

MEMBER OF TEAM CELERITUDO IN THE NETHERLAND BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

Former Kean women’s basketball All-American center Jaquana Abdullah (1999-2003) has continued her basketball career abroad, as she is currently playing in the Netherlands Basketball Association (Nederlandse Basketball Bond). The program’s all-time leading scorer, Abdullah plays for Celeritudo of the First Division.

Abdullah, who made the trip over to Groningen, Holland in late February, recorded a pair of double-doubles in recent games.

“Offensively she is very impressive and will be a great asset to the team,” said Celeritudo Head Coach Kees Amama. “Her minutes will continue to increase as she improves her conditioning and understands
our defensive system.”

“This is a great opportunity for Jaquana,” said Kean Head Coach Michele Sharp. “It shows the quality of players in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and their ability to play professional basketball.”

As a senior at Kean, Abdullah earned Kodak/WBCA All-America Honorable Mention distinction and was named a D3hoops.com second-team All-American after leading the Cougars to the regular season NJAC title with a 15-3 mark and an overall record of 20-7 in 2002-03.

She led the team in scoring and was second in rebounding, averaging a double-double with 16.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She added 38 blocks and 32 steals, and shot a team-best .549 from the floor
(180-328). Abdullah, who had 15 double-doubles, ranked in the Top Five in the NJAC in scoring (4th), rebounding (4th), field-goal percentage (2nd) and blocks (4th) her final season.

A four-year starter, Abdullah finished her career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,417 points, despite missing the final 13 games of her rookie season with a knee injury. The three-time all-NJAC selection also grabbed 909 boards in 91 career games. Abdullah shot .552 from the floor (587-1063) and added 122 blocks and 110 steals in her career.

While at Kean, Abdullah also earned D3hoops.com Women’s All-Atlantic first-team and Eastern College Athletic Conference first-team honors. Her junior year, the Cougars finished 20-9 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after capturing the NJAC tournament title. After back-to-back 9-15 campaigns as a freshman and sophomore, the Cougars posted a pair of 20-win seasons during Abdullah’s junior and senior years.
