CAREER SOFTBALL COACHING VICTORY

REACHES MILESTONE WITH VICTORY OVER WESLEYAN (CT) IN FLORIDA

Richard Stockton head softball coach Val Julien collected her 250th coaching victory on March 15 in Ft. Myers, FL as the Ospreys topped Wesleyan (CT), 3-0 in nine innings. The longest tenured softball coach currently in the NJAC, Julien is in her 18th season at the helm of the Osprey program.

Julien led Stockton to a school-record 23 victories and its third ECAC Tournament berth during her stint as head coach. The Ospreys also earned ECAC playoff bids in1990 and 1997 under her leadership. She boasts the longest tenure of any softball coach in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Julien led Stockton to three consecutive NJAC Blue Division titles from 1997-99 and was named the NJAC Blue Division Coach of the Year three times during the conference's two-division format.

Julien served as an assistant under Dot Hirschfeld from 1984-86, then was elevated to head coach in 1987.  She has been on the Stockton coaching staff for 84 percent of the program's 373 all-time victories, including 250 as the head coach.

In addition to her softball duties, Julien works full-time for the Stockton Office of Athletics and Recreation as an evenings and weekends athletics coordinator and helps organize the College's yearly volunteer efforts at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. She also serves as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Divas women's softball team in the summer and helped coach the Divas to the 2003 ASA Women's 23 & Under national championship.
