The Montclair State softball team
will play its first-ever game in its new home – the Montclair State
Softball Stadium – as the Red Hawks host Ramapo on March 27. First pitch for the scheduled doubleheader is
set for 3:00 PM.
The
game will be the first of many events slated during the inaugural
season in the new stadium. On April 3, Montclair State will hold an
“Alumni Celebration” as it is inviting all of its former softball
players. On April 20, the official “Grand Opening” will occur prior
to the start of the Montclair State-Kean doubleheader at 3:30 PM.
The new stadium
holds approximately 265 seats made up of bleacher type and stadium
molded seats and also contains a press box, locker rooms, restrooms,
storage and concession area. A new state-of-the-art scoreboard will
be displayed in left-center field and the stadium will also have
lights and an artificial surface (Field Turf) that looks, feels and
plays like grass. Construction on the stadium began shortly after
the Red Hawks’ final game on May 11, 2003 with the field component
completed by late September.
“We are very
excited about the new stadium,” says Red Hawk head coach Anita
Kubicka. “Having a first-class facility like this will have an
impact on our program not only on the playing field, but it will
also allow spectators to enjoy a game in a state-of-the-art venue.”
