Rutgers University-Camden sophomore
pitcher Michelle Schlichtig has been named the New Jersey
Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year for the 2004 season.
A newcomer to the NJAC in 2004, Schlichtig led the Scarlet Raptors
to their first NJAC championship in school history by producing a
3-1 record in the NJAC Tournament with a 0.77 earned run average.
Overall on the season, the right-hander has notched a 20-6 record
with a 0.62 earned run average. She currently leads the conference
in strikeouts with 241, a mark that is 97 more than her nearest
league competitor. Schlichtig was also a factor for Camden
offensively, hitting .344 with 11 doubles and 22 RBI. She currently
ranks fifth in the NJAC in total hits with 44.
Rowan junior lefthander Sara Dickey was named the 2004 NJAC
Pitcher of the Year. A first-team All-NJAC selection in 2002, Dickey
currently leads all NJAC pitchers in earned run average with a mark
of 0.42. She finished her season with an overall record of 14-3
while holding opposing hitters to a .173 batting average. In
addition, she posted a pitching record of 8-1 against NJAC
competition in the regular season.
Pioneer freshman outfielder Liz Sisca was named the league’s
Rookie of the Year. The William Paterson newcomer currently leads
the conference in overall batting average (.486), slugging
percentage (.876), on base percentage (.538), RBI (39), triples (5)
and total bases (92). Sisca also hit a conference-best .500 against
NJAC pitching during the 2004 season.
Rutgers-Camden ninth-year skipper Carl Taylor was selected as
the 2004 NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers. With an overall
coaching record of 133-100-1, Taylor has already led his 2004 squad
to a school-best record of 32-9. In addition, his team captured its
first NJAC Championship and will make its first ever appearance in
the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. The
Scarlet Raptors will face Mary Baldwin in a first round NCAA
Regional contest on May 7 at Noon. |
