Rowan University’s
Tom McCullen has been named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America
College Division Baseball second team. A pitcher, McCullen was
previously selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II first
team. The
members of the College Sports Information Directors of America by
districts select the Academic All-District Team and the first team
selections advance onto the national ballot.
To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a
student-athlete must be a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative
grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve. The
District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I
colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland,
Delaware, West Virginia and the
District of Columbia.
McCullen has accumulated a grade point average of 3.63 in elementary
education. In 2004, he posted an 11-2 pitching record in 16
starts. In 105.1 innings, he notched an earned run average of 1.71
with 86 strikeouts. He also recorded three complete games and one
shutout.
He was chosen to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)
All-America second team and the Mid-Atlantic All-Region first team.
In addition, McCullen was a member of the New Jersey Collegiate
Baseball Association (NJCBA) first team and the New Jersey Athletic
Conference (NJAC) All-Conference second team.
During the 2004 season, McCullen was named the NJAC Pitcher of the
Week twice, the NJCBA Pitcher of the Week twice and the Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Region Pitcher of the Week
once.
The Rowan baseball team finished the season with a 41-8 record and
advanced to the finals of the NCAA Division III Championship
Tournament. The Profs won their second straight NJAC Championship
and received the conference’s automatic bid to the national
championship tournament.
