 ROWAN'S McCULLEN NAMED TO CoSIDA's
ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN TEAM

NJAC MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR RECEIVES NATIONAL ACADEMIC HONOR

Rowan University’s Tom McCullen has been named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Baseball second team. A pitcher, McCullen was previously selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II first team. The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America by districts select the Academic All-District Team and the first team selections advance onto the national ballot.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve. The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the
District of Columbia.

McCullen has accumulated a grade point average of 3.63 in elementary education. In 2004, he posted an 11-2 pitching record in 16 starts. In 105.1 innings, he notched an earned run average of 1.71 with 86 strikeouts. He also recorded three complete games and one shutout.

He was chosen to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America second team and the Mid-Atlantic All-Region first team. In addition, McCullen was a member of the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) first team and the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference second team.

During the 2004 season, McCullen was named the NJAC Pitcher of the Week twice, the NJCBA Pitcher of the Week twice and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Region Pitcher of the Week once.

The Rowan baseball team finished the season with a 41-8 record and advanced to the finals of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The Profs won their second straight NJAC Championship and received the conference’s automatic bid to the national championship tournament.
