ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS ANNOUNCED


TCNJ'S GRANT NAMED 2004-05 NJAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR


The College of New Jersey’s senior guard Derick Grant has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year for the 2004-05 season.

A two-time all-conference selection, Grant currently leads the NJAC in scoring with an average of 20.8 points per game. A two-time Player of the Week selection in 2004-05, he also ranks among the Top 20 statistically in the NJAC in rebounding (4.7 per game), assists (2.04 per game), free throw percentage (.793), three-point field goals made per game (2.85), and minutes played (34.08 per game). Grant led the Lions to a 17-9 overall record and wrapped up his career as the second all-time leading scorer in TCNJ history with 1,543 career points.

Rowan University freshman forward Matt Byrnes was selected as the conference Rookie of the Year. A six-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, Byrnes earned the honor for the final four weeks of the regular season. He currently ranks 13th in the conference in scoring (13.9 points per game), while also ranking among the NJAC Top 20 statistically in rebounding (4.7 per game), free throw percentage (.740), three-point field goal percentage (.331) and minutes played (31.96 per game).


Ramapo College senior guard Amin Wright was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. His selection marks the fifth consecutive year that a Roadrunner garnered the league’s top defensive honor. The current NJAC leader in steals, his 3.80 per game steal average currently ranks second in all of NCAA Division III. Wright also ranks sixth in the league in rebounding (7.6 per game), and third in the conference in scoring (17.3 points per game).

Ramapo head coach Chuck McBreen was named NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers after guiding the Roadrunners to a 21-4 overall record and the NJAC regular season championship. Top-seeded Ramapo will open play in the 2004-05 NJAC Tournament on February 23 when they host Rutgers-Newark in a semifinal contest. In seven seasons at the helm of the Roadrunner program, McBreen has compiled a career coaching record of 127-59.
