Rowan University senior guard Jaime
McCormack and The College of New Jersey’s senior guard Theresa
DiMedio have been named New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball
Co-Players of the Year for the 2004-05 season.
A three-time conference Player of the Week selection, McCormack currently
leads the NJAC in scoring with an average of 19.2 points per game. She
also ranks among the NJAC Top 15 statistically in field goal percentage
(.451), assists (3.48 per game), free throw percentage (.768), steals
(2.68 per game), assist-to-turnover ratio (0.81) and minutes played (37.04
per game).
DiMedio helped lead the Lions to an overall record of 20-5 and the NJAC
regular season championship with a 14-2 conference mark. She currently
leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 1.67,
while ranking 12th in the league in scoring with an average of
11.0 points per game. DiMedio also ranks among the NJAC Top 15
statistically in field goal percentage (.425), assists (3.48 per game),
three-point field goal percentage (.354) and three-point field goals made
per game (1.84).
Both conference Players of the Year will have the opportunity to go
head-to-head for the third time this season as top-seed TCNJ will host
fifth-seeded Rowan in the semifinals of the NJAC Women’s Basketball
Championship Tournament on February 25.
Kean University freshman forward Chari’ Cooper was named the
2004-05 NJAC Rookie of the Year. She currently leads the NJAC and all of
NCAA Division III in rebounding with an average of 15.3 boards per game. A
five-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, she currently ranks sixth in
the conference in scoring (12.6 points per game), fourth in the league in
field goal percentage (.466), and third in the NJAC in blocks (2.17 per
game).
TCNJ junior guard Tiara Simpkins was named NJAC Defensive Player of
the Year. A key factor in a TCNJ team defensive unit that currently leads
the conference in fewest points allowed per game (54.5), Simpkins
individually ranks eighth in the league in steals (2.36 per game), 15th
in the conference in assists (2.20 per game) and third in the NJAC in free
throw percentage (.783).
TCNJ head coach Dawn Henderson was named the 2004-05 NJAC Coach of
the Year by her peers after guiding the Lions to the NJAC regular season
championship and a 20-5 overall record. The defending NJAC Champions will
open defense of their title on February 24 when they host Rowan in the
NJAC Tournament semifinals. In 12 seasons at the helm of the TCNJ program,
Henderson has compiled a career coaching record of 234-83.
