ROWAN'S McCULLEN NAMED A FIRST-TEAM
ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SELECTION


SOUTHPAW NOW ELIGIBLE FOR ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN HONORS 


Rowan University senior left-handed pitcher Tom McCullen was named a first-team selection to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Baseball Team. It is the second straight year McCullen received the honor. 

The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America selected the Academic All-District Team by districts and the first team selections move onto the national ballot for 2005 Academic All-America honors.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a sophomore with a 3.20 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve. The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware,West Virginia and the District of Columbia. 

McCullen has a grade point average of 3.658 in elementary education. He has a 5-2 pitching record in 10 starts.  In 60.2 innings, he has posted an earned run average of 3.56 with 38 strikeouts. 

In 2004, he was chosen to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference second team. During the 2004 season, McCullen was named the NJAC Pitcher of the Week twice, the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Pitcher of the Week twice and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Region Pitcher of the Week once.  McCullen was also chosen as the 2004 NJAC Male Athlete of the Year, the highest award given by the New Jersey Athletic Conference. 

Rowan currently has an overall record of 37-7. The Profs, who earned an at-large selection to the NCAA National Championship Tournament, will open play in the Boyertown Regional against Franklin & Marshall on May 19.
