TCNJ'S BOYD & ROWAN'S SCHWARTZ HONORED AT THE
SIXTH ANNUAL NJAC AWARDS BRUNCH

The College of New Jersey junior Brittny Boyd (left) and Rowan University senior Josh Schwartz (right) were presented with the 2004-05 New Jersey Athletic Conference Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards respectively at the Sixth Annual NJAC Awards Brunch at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton on June 5. Their selections highlighted the event which saw a record number of student-athletes receive honors for their athletic and academic accomplishments throughout the 2004-05 academic year.

Boyd is a 19-time all-conference selection, a 16-time NCAA All-American and a five-time NCAA National Champion in indoor & outdoor track & field. She also is a three-time all-conference selection in women’s soccer. In 2005, she was named the Most Outstanding Athlete at the NJAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships after winning the 100 meter dash (12.26), the 200 meters (25.52) and the long jump (5.46 meters).  At the 2004-05 NJAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, she captured the NJAC crown in the 200 meters (25.67) and was a member of the Lion champion 4x200 meter relay team (1:46.40). During the 2004 women’s soccer season, Boyd led TCNJ in both goals (14) and points (34) and ranked fourth in the NJAC in both categories. The 2002 NJAC women’s soccer Rookie of the Year, she earned third-team All-American honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America following the 2004 season.

Schwartz earned All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association as a left-handed pitcher for a Rowan baseball squad that made its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the NCAA National Finals in Appleton, WI for the second consecutive year. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional after leading the Profs to their second consecutive Mid-Atlantic Regional championship in Boyertown, PA. Schwartz wrapped up his stellar career with a 38-3 overall record and a 2.03 career earned run average. In 2005, he was 13-0 with a 1.74 ERA. In total, he holds six career Rowan pitching records and two Prof single-season pitching marks. Schwartz also holds the NCAA All-Division record for consecutive pitching victories with 37 straight wins over the course of his four seasons. The three-time NJAC Pitcher of the Year honoree was also named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pitcher of the Year and the American Baseball Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year.
