The College of New Jersey’s senior forward Colleen Stamler
and Rowan senior back Rhonda Bennett have been named the 2004
NJAC Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year
respectively.
A three-time NJAC all-conference selection, Stamler currently leads
the conference in both total points (36) and total goals (15). A
2003 NFHCA South Atlantic All-Region first-team selection, Stamler
has captured NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors seven times in
her career, including two times in 2004. The NJAC Rookie of the Year
in 2001, Stamler has led the Lions in scoring each season since her
sophomore year of 2002.
A two-time NJAC all-conference selection, Bennett tallied 23 points
in 65 career games played for the Profs. In 2004, she was a key
member of Rowan’s defensive unit which held its opponents to 1.82
goals per game, while limiting its NJAC opponents to only 1.50 goals
per contest.
Rowan junior Elizabeth Unger was named NJAC Midfielder of the
Year. In 17 games played in 2004, she tallied 10 goals and six
assists for 26 points. Unger currently ranks third in the conference
in points per game with a mark of 1.47.
Montclair State freshman forward Jennifer Tanis was named the
conference’s Rookie of the Year. A three-time NJAC Rookie of the
Week selection, Tanis currently ranks tied for fifth in the
conference in goals with nine on the season.
For the fifth-time in her career, TCNJ head coach Sharon Pfluger has
been selected as the NJAC Coach of the Year. Now in her 20th
year at the helm of the Lion program, she has posted a career record
at TCNJ of 358-42-5 while guiding the Lions to seven national
championships. The 2004 NJAC Champion Lions will face Springfield in
the second round of the NCAA National Championship Tournament at
Salisbury, MD on November 13. The game will mark the 20th
consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for TCNJ under Pfluger.
