The College of New Jersey athletic department has selected Eric
Mobley to serve as the new head coach of the men’s and women’s track
and field programs. Mobley will replace Steve Dolan, who resigned to
pursue a coaching position at Princeton University.
Mobley comes to TCNJ from Temple University, where he served as an
assistant track and field coach with the Division I Owls for the
past two and one half years. While at Temple, Mobley was
instrumental with the Owls men’s program, serving as an assistant
while preparing and developing the men’s sprinters, jumpers,
hurdlers and middle distance runners.
TCNJ Athletic Director, Kevin McHugh said, “We are very pleased that
Eric is taking over the reins of the track and field programs and
expect that he will continue to build on the tradition of success
that both the men’s and women’s programs have enjoyed here at TCNJ.”
Prior to joining the Temple staff, he served two seasons as an
assistant track and field coach with the University of Akron. Prior
to his tenure with the Zips program, he served a two and a half year
stint at LaSalle University from September 1999 to September of
2000.
A 1993 graduate of LaSalle University, Mobley has attended the USATF
Coaches Education School and holds a Level I certification in track
and field. A former Division I athlete at LaSalle, Mobley earned
Midwestern Collegiate Conference All-Conference honors and was an
All-East performer at the IC4A Indoor Championships in the 400 meter
run as a senior in 1993 . He holds the LaSalle indoor school record
in the 400 meter run.
In addition to his role as Temple’s Assistant Track and Field coach
the past two seasons, Mobley has also worked as a secondary
education teacher with the Community Education Partners in
Philadelphia.
Mobley inherits a program that has dominated the New Jersey Athletic
Conference track scene having won the last seven men’s and women’s
indoor championships and 21 of a possible 22 NJAC women’s outdoor
titles. The men’s program has won the last seven straight outdoor
NJAC championships and captured five straight ECAC Indoor titles
from 1999 to 2003. The women’s team finished in fifth place at the
2004 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, while the men picked
up 24th place after producing eight All-Americans and
breaking 12 school records. TCNJ’s women’s team produced two NCAA
Division III National Champions (4x100 and 4x400 relays) and had two
others finish as the national runners-up (5,000 meter run and 400
meter dash). |
