MOBLEY NAMED NEW HEAD WOMEN'S & MEN'S
TRACK & FIELD COACH AT TCNJ

FORMER TEMPLE ASSISTANT SELECTED TO LEAD BOTH LION PROGRAMS

The College of New Jersey athletic department has selected Eric Mobley to serve as the new head coach of the men’s and women’s track and field programs. Mobley will replace Steve Dolan, who resigned to pursue a coaching position at Princeton University.

Mobley comes to TCNJ from Temple University, where he served as an assistant track and field coach with the Division I Owls for the past two and one half years. While at Temple, Mobley was instrumental with the Owls men’s program, serving as an assistant while preparing and developing the men’s sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and middle distance runners.

TCNJ Athletic Director, Kevin McHugh said, “We are very pleased that Eric is taking over the reins of the track and field programs and expect that he will continue to build on the tradition of success that both the men’s and women’s programs have enjoyed here at TCNJ.”

Prior to joining the Temple staff, he served two seasons as an assistant track and field coach with the University of Akron. Prior to his tenure with the Zips program, he served a two and a half year stint at LaSalle University from September 1999 to September of 2000.

A 1993 graduate of LaSalle University, Mobley has attended the USATF Coaches Education School and holds a Level I certification in track and field. A former Division I athlete at LaSalle, Mobley earned Midwestern Collegiate Conference All-Conference honors and was an All-East performer at the IC4A Indoor Championships in the 400 meter run as a senior in 1993 . He holds the LaSalle indoor school record in the 400 meter run.

In addition to his role as Temple’s Assistant Track and Field coach the past two seasons, Mobley has also worked as a secondary education teacher with the Community Education Partners in Philadelphia.

Mobley inherits a program that has dominated the New Jersey Athletic Conference track scene having won the last seven men’s and women’s indoor championships and 21 of a possible 22 NJAC women’s outdoor titles. The men’s program has won the last seven straight outdoor NJAC championships and captured five straight ECAC Indoor titles from 1999 to 2003. The women’s team finished in fifth place at the 2004 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, while the men picked up 24th place after producing eight All-Americans and breaking 12 school records. TCNJ’s women’s team produced two NCAA Division III National Champions (4x100 and 4x400 relays) and had two others finish as the national runners-up (5,000 meter run and 400 meter dash).
