TCNJ'S BOYD & NJCU'S HUSSEY NAMED NJAC
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES OF THE YEAR


SELECTIONS HIGHLIGHT THE 2005-06 NJAC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS


The College of New Jersey’s junior sprinter Brittny Boyd and New Jersey City University sophomore sprinter Ronald Hussey were named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Female and Male Athletes of the Year respectively for the 2005-06 season. Their selections highlighted the 2005-06 NJAC Indoor Track & Field Women’s and Men’s all-conference teams which were announced on February 21.


The New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field all-conference selections are based on the results of the conference championship meet which was held at the New York Armory on February 19. First-place finishers in each event receive first-team all-conference honors, while each event’s runner-up is named second-team all-conference. The third place finisher in each championship event receives honorable mention all-conference accolades.

 

Individually, Boyd won the 55 Meter Dash (7.36), the 200 Meters (25.46) and the Long Jump (5.53m). The 2004-05 New Jersey Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Year, Boyd wrapped up her NJAC Indoor career as an eight-time conference event champion, including a three-time NJAC Indoor champion in the 200 Meters.

 

Hussey sparked NJCU’s return to the NJAC by winning the 55 Meter Dash with a meet-record-tying time of 6.45. He also placed third in the 200 Meters (22.22) and was a member of both the NJAC Champion 4x200 Meter Relay team (1:28.35), and the Gothic Knights’ second place 4x400 Meter Relay squad (3:25.47).

 

NJCU senior sprinter Denay Caldwell was selected as the Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.38. She also placed third in the 200 Meters (26.56) and was a member of the Knights’ NJAC Champion 4x200 Meter Relay team (1:45.80).


NJCU sophomore sprinter Thomas Hunter
and TCNJ senior middle distance runner Jeff Zodda were named Co-Outstanding Male Track Athletes of the Year. Hunter won the 400 Meters (47.90) and was a member of both the Knights’ champion 4x200 Meter Relay team (1:28.35) and its second place 4x400 Meter Relay squad (3:25.47). Zodda won the 800 Meters with a meet record time of 1:52.90. He also was a member of the Lions’ champion 4x400 Meter Relay team (3:24.87).

 

Richard Stockton junior Lisa Chatman was named Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Year after earning all-conference honors in four events. She placed second in the Long Jump (5.19m), second in the High Jump (1.53m), second in the 55 Meter Hurdles (8.83) and third in the 800 Meters (2:24.48).

 

Rowan senior Robert Godfrey was named Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season after winning the shot put with a mark of 16.49 meters. Gofrey is a three-time conference champion in the event and the conference record-holder.

 

Second-year TCNJ head coach Eric Mobley was selected as the NJAC Women’s Coach of the Year after guiding both the Lions’ men’s and women’s teams to their ninth consecutive conference crowns. NJCU second-year head coach Steven Royster was named Men’s Coach of the Year after guiding the Gothic Knight men to a second place overall finish.
