MONTCLAIR STATE'S KUBICKA RECORDS HER 500TH
CAREER SOFTBALL COACHING VICTORY

REACHES MILESTONE WITH A 4-3 CONFERENCE WIN OVER RICHARD STOCKTON

With a 4-3 win over conference rival Richard Stockton on April 24, Montclair State head softball coach Anita Kubicka earned her 500th career victory. Now in her 16th season, Kubicka has posted a record of 501-186-1, which includes 14 campaigns of 25 or more wins and 10 years of 30-plus victories. She entered the 2006 season 11th on the NCAA Division III Coaches List for winning percentage (minimum of 10 years) at .724, and her 473 victories ranks 12th best.

With Kubicka's milestone, she became just the second coach in Montclair State University Athletic history to achieve 500 wins, joining head baseball coach Norm Schoenig as the duo make Montclair State the only Division III institution in the nation with active baseball and softball coaches who have achieved 500 victories all at one school. Kubicka notched her 100th New Jersey Athletic Conference win on April 15, as MSU defeated The College of New Jersey, her alma mater, 6-2 in Ewing.

Kubicka has led Montclair State to eight NCAA Tournaments, including the 1992 and 1997 Division III Softball Championships where the Red Hawks finished third and second, respectively. In 1992, Kubicka’s team captured the at-large Regional in Glassboro, winning three games on the final day to advance to the national tournament. At the finals in Pella, Iowa, MSU ultimately recorded a third-place finish. Five years later, Kubicka led MSU to a 29-8 regular season record that paved the way to an NJAC Championship, followed by two wins over Salisbury for the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship. The squad earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where the Red Hawks finished as the national runner-up following a 2-1 loss to Simpson College in the Championship game, leaving MSU with a school-record 38-11 final mark (.792).

In addition to her NCAA Tournament success, Kubicka has also guided Montclair to the ECAC Division III South Championship in each of the past six seasons. She has also earned seven NJAC and NCAA Regional Coach of the Year honors. Among the list of 48 players to be named All-American at MSU, Kubicka had coached 30 of them – 14 First-Team selections, including 1992 NCAA Division III Player of the Year Lois Fyfe.

Kubicka, who serves as Assistant Athletic Director in addition to her coaching duties at Montclair, also played a prominent role in the construction of the state-of-the-art Montclair State University Softball Stadium that opened in 2004.
