ROWAN'S SILVA SIGNED BY THE NEW YORK JETS


NJAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR INKED TO A FREE AGENT CONTRACT


Rowan University wide receiver Phil Silva signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets on June 6.  

A co-captain in 2005, Silva led Rowan with nine touchdown catches and a 14.8 yards per catch average. He totaled 681 yards on 48 receptions in 13 games. Silva was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Year, while also making his third consecutive appearance on the All-Conference teams. He earned first-team all-conference honors in both 2004 and 2005, after garnering second-team all league honors in 2003. 

 

Silva was also on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southeast Region All-Star first team, d3football.com All-East Region third team, and Football Gazette East All-Region third team. In the conference statistics, Silva was seventh in receiving yards per game (52.4), eighth in receptions per game (3.54) and 10th in scoring (4.2). During his tenure at Rowan, Silva recorded 135 catches for 1,729 yards.  He scored 25 career touchdowns, including one rushing. 

Rowan compiled an 11-2 overall record in 2005.  The Profs won the NJAC Championship and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the second consecutive year.
