Interim Commissioner of the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), Steve Bamford, has announced
that Holly Gera, Director of Athletics at Montclair State University
has been named the 2006 ECAC Jostens Female Administrator of the Year.
The ECAC Jostens Male and Female Administrators of the Year awards are
presented annually to administrators from ECAC member schools in
recognition of outstanding or meritorious service to the ECAC. The
awards will be presented at the ECAC Convention Honors Dinner presented
by Jostens on October 1 at the Four Points by Sheraton Hyannis Resort.
Gera has served as the Director of Athletics at Montclair State for 10
years and has been a staff member with her alma mater since she began in
1989 as the Director of Campus Recreation. In 1990, she was promoted to
Assistant Director of Athletics and in 1995, Gera was appointed
Associate Athletic Director overseeing and administering the day to day
internal operations of the department.
Since 1996, Gera has directed the operations for the NCAA Division III
athletic department which boasts 17 sports for men and women.
Gera, of Morris Plains, serves on several committees including being the
Vice President of the National Association of Division III Athletic
Administrators, Facilitator for the NCAA Division III Student Athlete
Leadership Conferences, Sports Chairperson for Women’s Basketball for
the New Jersey Athletic Conference and Treasurer of the New Jersey
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. She was a member of
the ECAC Board of Directors from 2002-2005 and has served on several
ECAC Championship Committees.
A 1979 graduate of Montclair State, Gera received a Masters of Science
in 1981 from The Pennsylvania State University. She has received
numerous awards and most recently was honored as the recipient of the
Pathfinder Award for the state of New Jersey given by the National
Association of Girls and Women in Sports.
