College
head men’s basketball coach Gerry Matthews collected his 400th

who won 429 games at New Jersey City (1960-67) and Montclair State
(1968-91). Matthews has won four NJAC championships (1986, ’87, ’96, ’97) and been named the NJAC Coach of the Year seven times (1987, ’88, ’92, ’93, ’96, ’00 ’02). He has led Stockton to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances including a trip to the Division III Final Four in 1987. Matthews’ teams have reached the 20-win mark 10 times and he has never had a losing season. Prior to his hiring at Stockton in 1985, Matthews went 228-98 and won two state titles in 13 years at Long Branch and Rumson-Fair Haven high schools. |
