WILLIAM PATERSON'S CUSTIS NAMED NJAC
PLAYER & DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR


PIONEERS' BROWN TAPPED AS LEAGUE'S ROOKIE OF THE YEAR


William Paterson University senior guard Luci Custis was named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Year in the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the 2006-07 season. In addition, Custis was also selected as the conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

A three-time all-conference selection, Custis earned NJAC Player of the Week honors twice during the 2006-07 season. She currently ranks in the Top 10 in seven league statistical categories including scoring (3rd, 13.4 points per game); steals (5th, 2.60 per game); free throw percentage (7th, .712); three-point field goal percentage (8th, .300); assists (9th, 2.68 per game); three-point field goals made per game (10th, 1.20); and minutes played (10th, 30.72). Against NJAC competition, Custis ranks among the Top 10 in five conference statistical categories including three-point field percentage (3rd, .333); steals (4th, 2.62 per game); assists (8th, 2.69 per game); scoring (9th, 11.5 points per game); and three-point field goals made per game (9th, 1.15).

William Paterson freshman guard Elisa Brown was named the 2006-07 NJAC Rookie of the Year. A Week 11 NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, Brown currently ranks among the leaders in four league statistical categories including steals (6th, 2.56 per game); three-point field goals made per game (11th, 0.96); rebounding (15th, 5.6 per game); and scoring (28th, 7.8 points per game). Against NJAC competition, Brown ranks in six statistical categories including three-point field goal percentage (3rd, .333); steals (9th, 2.00); three-point field goals made per game (10th, 1.08); blocks (15th, 0.54); rebounding (17th, 5.6 per game); and scoring (21st, 9.4 points per game).

The selection of William Paterson head coach Erin Monahan as the league Coach of the Year by her peers gave the Pioneers a sweep of the conference’s major women’s basketball awards for the 2006-07 season. Selected to finish second in the NJAC North Division in a preseason poll of league coaches, Monahan guided the Pioneers to a 21-4 overall record, an 11-2 mark in league play, and the championship of the NJAC North Division. The Pioneers, who will have home-court advantage throughout the NJAC Tournament, will host Rutgers-Newark in a semifinal match-up on February 22. Now in her 14th season at the helm of the Pioneer program, Monahan has guided Paterson to an overall mark of 257-117.
