RUTGERS-NEWARK'S RIZZI CAPTURES HIS 100TH
CAREER BASEBALL COACHING VICTORY

REACHES MILESTONE WITH A 7-4 VICTORY OVER OCCIDENTAL

Rutgers-Newark head baseball coach Mark Rizzi collected his 100th career win with a 7-4 victory over Occidental in Whittier, CA on March 11. With the victory, the sixth-year head coach of the Scarlet Raiders increased his career coaching mark to 100-118-3, including a record of 90-101-3 at Rutgers-Newark.

Rizzi was named the head baseball coach at Rutgers-Newark in September 2001. A Rutgers University graduate with a bachelor of arts in journalism and mass media from the New Brunswick campus, Rizzi spent one season at Bloomfield College before being hired to skipper the Scarlet Raiders. He came to Bloomfield after resurrecting the baseball program at Paterson Catholic Regional High School, where he led the school from an 0-23 season in 1992 to a state Parochial B championship appearance in 1999.

At Paterson Catholic, Rizzi posted an 86-25 record during his final four seasons, which included four consecutive Bergen Parochial Scholastic League titles. His teams qualified for the state tournament in 1997, 1998 and 1999. His final team claimed the Parochial B North Sectional title.

Rizzi also served stints in sports information offices at New Jersey City University (1988-90) and Seton Hall (1990-92) after training as a graduate assistant at Rutgers University (1986-88).
