Montclair State junior righthander Carolyn McCrea was named the Louisville
Slugger/National Fastpictch Coaches Association Division III Player of the
Week for the week ending March 18. McCrea helped the Red Hawks to a 9-2
start this season as she went 6-0 in seven appearances.
McCrea picked up all six victories for MSU in a 6-1 week for the Red Hawks
at the Gene Cusic Classic. Posting a 6-0 mark, McCrea pitched 41 innings
allowing 27 hits and six runs (five earned). McCrea struck out 36 and
walked just eight while posting an earned run average of 0.85.
She opened the week by fanning five and allowing nine hits and two runs in
a 5-2 win over Wheaton (MA). After striking out six in a four-inning
relief stint vs. Keene State, McCrea tossed the first of her three
shutouts on the week, allowing a five hits while striking two in a 1-0 win
over Illinois
College.
She then tossed back-to-back one-hitters in wins over Ohio Wesleyan and
Albion College before finishing out the week with a complete-game win over
New England College. In the game, she allowed two runs (on a two-run HR in
the seventh) and five hits striking out 13 and walking three.
After being stuck in
Florida for
three days due to severe weather up North, MSU picked up an extra contest
with Plymouth State. McCrea allowed five hits and two runs, struck out
three and walked two as Montclair won the game, 3-2.
McCrea currently leads
the NJAC in strikeouts (53), victories (8) and innings pitched (61.2) and
is fourth in earned run average (1.02).
