NJCU
men’s basketball player
Dana John will have
his life story featured on the MSG Network on March 30 at 11:00 PM, immediately
following the NBA game between the New York Knicks and the Dallas
Mavericks. The feature, conducted by Jimmy Cavallo,
will air as part of the program “MSG, NY.”
The program will also be re-aired throughout the day on March 31. His appearance on the MSG Network will mark his second on New York-area
television this month. On March 12, he was featured on WWOR-TV/My-9 New
York.
Additionally, it will mark the fourth time in five weeks that John is
featured by a major publication or television network. On February 19, he
became the second NJCU athlete this year and the first men's basketball
player on record to be featured in Sports Illustrated's Faces in
the Crowd. On February 22, he was featured in a lengthy article on
Sports Illustrated.com. He will also have his story chronicled by ESPN
The Magazine in the coming weeks.
John, in only
his second year of playing organized basketball at any level, was selected
First-Team All-Region by the National Association of Basketball Coaches
and D3Hoops.com and First-Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference this
year. He led the Gothic Knights (19-10) to the NJAC North Division regular
season championship and within one shot of the NCAA Tournament. A
three-time NJAC Player of the Week, he was named the NJHoops.com Division
III Player of the Month for February 2007.
John was
selected to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week on November 21 and
earned ECAC Division III Metro Player of the Week on February 12. He was
tabbed NJAC Player of the Week on November 20, January 2 and February 12.
He was a three-time PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll selection and was a
member of the ECAC Division III Metro Honor Roll on January 2. John was
also the Most Valuable Player of the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament
in the opening week of the season.
Overall, John finished the year with 516 points, becoming only the second
NJCU player in the last 17 years (since 1990) to reach the 500-point
plateau. Along the way he obliterated the single-season school record for
three-pointers with 98; the previous NJCU mark was 65. He has already
connected for 144 three-pointers in two years, just 16 shy of tying the
NJCU program mark of 160.
For the season, John averaged 18.4 points, 5.6 rebounds (38-120-158), 1.8
steals (49), 1.1 assists (32) and 0.8 blocks per game (32) in 28 games. He
shot .456 from the field (167-366), .426 from three-point range (98-230),
and .778 from the free-throw line (84-108).
The NJAC leader in both threes made (3.50) and three-point percentage, he
finished the year with 17 more triples than any other player in the
league. John ranked second in the league in scoring, fifth in free-throw
percentage, eighth in minutes (31.46, 881), eighth in blocks and steals,
12th in defensive rebounds (4.29), and 16th in
rebounding.
