The Parlin native, who set the NCAA all-divisions record for saves in a career with 1,114 from 1997-2000 while playing for the Gothic Knights, assumes her duties immediately with the Scarlet Raider season slated to begin on September 1 against Philadelphia Biblical. “We are fortunate to add Amanda to our staff,” Griffin stated. “While at New Jersey City as associate athletic director, I watched her development as a student, an athlete, and as a coach. I believed then, and now, that she has the talent and drive to be an outstanding collegiate head coach.” “I am excited about the opportunity,” Cobb said. “There is a great group of young women who I have begun speaking with who will work hard to make this a successful season. Cobb served as an assistant at NJCU since earning her bachelor of science in criminal justice in 2001. She completed a bachelor of arts in chemistry from Rutgers-Newark in 2005. She currently teaches chemistry at South River High School. She established virtually every game, season and career record for goalkeeping at NJCU, earning New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honors twice. Cobb was a three-sport standout in soccer, softball and basketball at Sayreville War Memorial High School. Begun in 2000, the Scarlet Raider women’s soccer program has enjoyed a solid arc of improvement as the team posted its first winning season in 2004. In 2005, a young squad went 5-12-1 under third-year head coach Erik Burstein. Burstein became the top assistant coach at Division I Bowling Green in July. |
