Kean University junior forward Anthony Tuesta and New Jersey
City University senior back Anthony Flores have been named
the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive and
Defensive Players of the Year respectively for the 2006 season. In
total, 51 student-athletes earned all-conference recognition in NJAC
men’s soccer in 2006. All selections were determined by a vote of
the league’s 10 head coaches.
Tuesta currently ranks second in the NJAC in points (28), goals
(13), points per game (1.40) and goals per game (0.65). In NJAC
conference play, he finished second in the league in points (12),
goals (5), points per game (1.50) and goals per game (0.62). Tuesta,
who helped the Cougars advance to the semifinals of the 2006 NJAC
Tournament, also ranks third in the conference in game-wining goals
with four on the season.
A Week Two NJAC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week selection,
Flores is the quarterback of a Gothic Knight defense that has
propelled NJCU to the NJAC Championship match while ranking fifth in
the NJAC with a 0.88 team goals against average. The team leader in
minutes played for NJCU with 1,647 on the season, Flores has
anchored a Gothic Knight unit that currently ranks third in the NJAC
in shutouts with eight on the season.
Ramapo
College senior net-minder Patrick Jagodzinski was selected as
the conference Goalkeeper of the Year. A three-time NJAC
all-conference selection, he currently ranks second in the
conference in saves per game (5.79); third in save percentage
(.862); and fourth in goals against average (0.96). Jagodzinksi also
finished NJAC league play with a conference-high 66 saves in
conference competition.
Montclair State University senior midfielder Bill Anthes was
the recipient of the conference’s David Logar Award, given annually
to a player who best displays the attributes of leadership and
courage. Anthes currently leads the NJAC in both points (36) and
goals (16).
A two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week
selection, Richard Stockton College freshman forward Sean McCallum
was tapped as the league’s Rookie of the Year. McCallum has
tallied six goals and five assists for 17 points in 19 matches
played for Stockton.
Montclair State
head coach Brian Sentowski was selected as the NJAC Coach of the
Year by his peers. In 2006, Sentowski has guided the Red Hawks to an
18-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 mark in league play en route
to the NJAC Regular Season Championship. Top-seeded Montclair will
play for its first NJAC Championship in 17 years when the Red Hawks
host third-seeded NJCU in the 2006 NJAC Tournament Championship
match on November 3. Now in fifth year at the helm of the Red Hawk
program, Sentowski has led Montclair to an overall record of 70-22.
