The College of New Jersey’s freshman Jackie Shtemberg has
been named both the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis
Player and Rookie of the Year for the 2006 season.
A five-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, Shtemberg finished
her Fall season with a 16-3 mark in singles and a 15-3 overall
record in doubles play. She posted a 4-0 mark in NJAC singles
competition against the number one players from each conference
institution, and teamed with Christina Contrafatto to post a 4-0
mark against the league’s top doubles tandems.
Shtemberg earned
All-American honors in both single and doubles play at the ITA
National Small College Championships contested at
Gulf Coast University in
Fort Myers, FL. She finished sixth nationally in singles and teamed
with Contrafatto to place fifth nationally in the doubles
competition.
TCNJ head coach Scott Dicheck was selected as the NJAC Coach
of the Year by his peers. In 2006, he continued the Lions’ 24-season
unbeaten streak in conference play which spans the entire history of
women’s tennis in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Since the
inception of women’s tennis as a conference sport back in 1982, TCNJ
has posted a 116-0 record in league competition, including a mark of
34-0 under Dicheck’s leadership. In seven seasons at the helm of TCNJ's program, he has produced an overall record of 76-21.
