Richard Stockton head softball coach Val Julien will be inducted into the New Jersey Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame as part of its 2008 class at the Crowne Plaza Somerset-Bridgewater Hotel on January 20. Julien was selected for over 25 years of service as both a player and coach. She currently is preparing for her 22nd season at Stockton with 335 career college victories. Julien also has been associated with the New Jersey Divas, New Jersey Rebels and Montclair 81’s ASA women’s fastpitch softball teams.   

Julien served as the head coach of the New Jersey Divas from 2000-05. In 2003, she led the Divas to the ASA Women’s Under-23 national championship as well the New Jersey state title, the Mid-Atlantic region championship and a third-place finish at the ASA Class A national tournament. With Julien in charge, the Divas also finished fourth at the 2004 ASA Class A national tournament, fifth at the 2005 ASA Major national tourney and seventh at the 2002 ASA Major national championship. 

Prior to joining the New Jersey Divas, Julien spent two seasons as an assistant coach and then 13 years as head coach of the South Jersey/New Jersey Rebels. During that time, the Rebels were one of the top women’s Class A teams in the state. As a player, Julien competed in four national tournaments as a pitcher for the Montclair 81’s, earning ASA First Team All-America honors after leading the 81’s to the 1981 national championship.
