The College of New
Jersey’s senior center Hillary Klimowicz was
named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Year in the New Jersey Athletic
Conference for the 2007-08 season.
A two-time first-team all-conference selection, Klimowicz has earned NJAC
and ECAC Player of the Week honors six and two times respectively during
the 2007-08 season. She currently ranks in the Top Five in five different
league statistical categories including field goal percentage (1st,
.650); blocks (1st, 4.12 per game); scoring (2nd,
16.8 points per game); rebounding (3rd, 11.2 per game); and
free throw percentage (5th, .678). Against NJAC competition,
she currently ranks first, second, or third in four different
conference-only categories including field goal percentage (1st,
.689), scoring (2nd, 17.4 points per game); blocks (2nd,
4.00 per game); and rebounding (3rd, 10.8 per game). In the
NCAA Division III national statistics, she currently ranks second in the
nation in field goal percentage, fourth in blocks, 26th in
rebounding, and 71st in scoring.
William Paterson junior forward Asia Johnson was selected as the
league’s Defensive Player of the Year, marking the third consecutive
season that a Pioneer was selected as the league’s top defender. A
three-time NJAC Player of the Week selection during the 2007-08 season,
Johnson currently ranks in the Top Five in three statistical categories
including blocks (2nd, 3.67 per game); rebounding (2nd,
11.3 per game); and scoring (5th, 13.7 points per game).
Against NJAC competition, she leads the league in blocks and ranks second
in the conference-only rebounding statistics. Her average of 3.67 blocks
per game also ranks sixth nationally in the NCAA Division III statistics.
TCNJ’s freshman forward Kelsey Kutch was selected as the NJAC
Rookie of the Year. A Week 9 Rookie of the Week selection, she currently
ranks in the Top Ten of three NJAC statistical categories including free
throw percentage (1st, .827), steals (9th, 1.92 per
game), and blocks (9th, 0.84 per game). Kutch’s .827 free throw
percentage currently ranks 51st in the NCAA Division III
national statistics.
Lions’ head coach Dawn Henderson was selected as the league Coach of the
Year by her peers. Selected to finish second in the NJAC South Division in
a preseason poll of league coaches, she has guided TCNJ to a 20-5 overall
record and the NJAC South Division Championship via an 11-2 conference
mark. The Lions, who are seeded second overall in the NJAC Tournament,
will host Montclair State in a semifinal match-up. Henderson has produced
an overall collegiate coaching record of 332-162, including a mark of
286-112 in 15 seasons at the helm of the Lions’ program.
