Ramapo senior third baseman Lauren
Cascino and Montclair State senior third baseman Jackie Ferranti
have been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Co-Players
of the Year for the 2008 season.
A two-time first-team all-conference selection, Cascino hit a league-best
.448 against NJAC pitching during the 2008 conference regular season. In
the overall league statistics, she currently ranks ninth in the NJAC in
hitting (.379); eighth in the conference in total hits (47); and eighth in
the league in total bases (67).
A four-time NJAC all-conference selection, Ferranti led the NJAC in
overall hitting (.443); slugging percentage (.754); on-base percentage
(.561); total runs (50); total bases (92); and walks (34). A Week 6 NJAC
and ECAC Player of the Week selection, she hit .404 against NJAC pitching
during the 2008 conference regular season.
Montclair State senior right-hander Carolyn McCrea was selected as
the NJAC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season. A two-time
all-conference hurler, she currently leads the conference statistically
overall in earned run average (0.82); saves (5); appearances (27); and
wins (19). Against NJAC competition, McCrea was 10-0 with a 1.26 earned
run average.
Red Hawk freshman outfielder Leslie Gonzalez was tapped as the
league Rookie of the Year after earning a first-team all-conference
selection following her first season of collegiate competition. Gonzalez
hit .388 against NJAC pitching and ranks fourth in the league in overall
hitting with a .404 batting average.
Montclair State head coach Anita Kubicka was selected as the 2008
NJAC Coach of the Year by her peers, marking the second consecutive season
that she was garnered with the league’s top coaching honor. So far in
2008, she has guided the Red Hawks to an overall record of 37-3 as MSU
captured its second consecutive NJAC regular season championship via a
perfect 18-0 NJAC league mark. Top-seeded Montclair State will host the
remainder of the 2008 NJAC Championship Softball Tournament at the MSU
Softball Stadium on May 2-4. In 18 seasons at the helm of the Red Hawk
program, Kubicka has registered a career coaching record of 578-200-2.
