ROWAN'S KEMPF CAPTURES HER 150TH CAREER
FIELD HOCKEY COACHING VICTORY

REACHES MILESTONE WITH A 5-2 WIN OVER WIDENER ON OCTOBER 10

Rowan University’s Penny Kempf earned her 150th coaching victory when the field hockey team defeated Widener University, 5-2 on October 10.

In her 10th season, Kempf has a career won-loss record of 150-38 for a .798 winning percentage.  She has guided Rowan to eight NCAA tournament appearances and five New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) titles. In 2002, the Profs won the NCAA Division III National Championship and finished the season with a 21-0 record. The 21 wins marked a school record and the championship represented the first national title for a women’s team at the University.

Kempf was selected the 2002 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Coach of the Year, the South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, and the NJAC Coach of the Year. The Profs also advanced to the national tournament in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006. Rowan reached the NCAA semifinals in 1998 and 2000. In 1998, Kempf was named the NJAC Coach of the Year and the NFHCA South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. Rowan earned its first conference championship in 1998, ending The College of New Jersey’s 16-year reign as NJAC Champions.

Kempf currently serves on the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Committee. She earned her bachelor’s in health and physical education at Trenton State College in 1988. She received All-American honors in field hockey at attack and was twice named All-America in lacrosse on defense. Kempf was a member of the United States lacrosse team for three years.
