junior forward Amanda Kurdyla and The College of New Jersey’s
senior back Courtney Krol have been named the New Jersey Athletic
Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year
respectively for the 2007 season.
The 2005 NJAC Rookie of the Year, Kurdyla is a three-time all-conference
selection and a two-time first-team honoree. A two-time NJAC and ECAC
Player of the Week selection during the season, she currently leads the
conference in game-winning goals (7), while ranking third in the league in
both points (40) and goals (19). Against NJAC competition, Kurdyla ranks
fourth in both goals (7) and goals per game (0.78).
Krol earned the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award for the third
consecutive season after anchoring a Lions’ defensive unit that has posted
14 shutouts on the season and currently leads the NJAC in both fewest
goals allowed (4) and team goals against average (0.14). A three-time
first-team all-league selection, she helped propel the Lions to their
third consecutive NJAC Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division
III National Championship Tournament.
TCNJ’s senior midfielder Dana DiBruno was selected as the first
ever recipient of the conference’s newly established Midfielder of the
Year award. DiBruno, who was selected as the 2005 NJAC Offensive Player of
the Year after being named NJAC Rookie of the Year in 2004, is a
three-time first-team all-conference selection. She currently ranks second
in the league in game-winning goals (5), and fifth in the conference in
points (29).
Lions’ sophomore net-minder Jessica Clarke was the recipient of the
conference’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. A two-time NJAC all-conference
selection, Clarke currently leads the NJAC in both goals against average
(0.19), and save percentage (.900).
New Jersey City University freshman forward Jennifer Albuja was
tapped as the 2007 NJAC Rookie of the Year. A two-time NJAC Rookie of the
Week selection during the season, Albuja currently leads the conference in
both points (51) and goals (24).
TCNJ’s head coach Joe Russo was selected as the NJAC Coach of the
Year by his peers. In 2007, he has guided the Lions to a 17-0-1 overall
mark while capturing their third consecutive NJAC Championship and their
12th conference crown since 1994. In 18 seasons at the helm of
the TCNJ program, Russo has guided the Lions to an overall record of
332-31-23.
