TCNJ'S SHTEMBERG NAMED NJAC WOMEN'S TENNIS
PLAYER OF THE YEAR


TCNJ'S BERG NAMED LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR


The College of New Jersey’s sophomore Jackie Shtemberg has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year for the 2007 season.

A two-time recipient of the award, Shtemberg posted perfect 4-0 records in both singles and doubles play during the Fall NJAC season. In addition, she won the
Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Women’s Singles National Championship at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, AL, becoming the first female student-athlete at TCNJ to win a national ITA singles crown. She also teamed with Christina Contrafatto to earn ITA All-American honors in doubles by placing seventh. Shtemberg is now 42-5 on her career in singles play while teaming with Contrafatto to produce a 37-10 career doubles mark.

Lions’ freshman Amanda Berg was named the 2007 NJAC Rookie of the Year. Berg posted an 11-3 overall record in singles play during the fall season, including a perfect 5-0 mark in NJAC competition. An all-conference selection in both singles and doubles, she teamed with Stefanie Haar to post an 11-2 overall mark in doubles play during the fall season, including a perfect 4-0 record in NJAC competition.


TCNJ’s Scott Dicheck and Rutgers-Newark’s Kevin Morris were selected as 2007 NJAC Co-Coaches of the Year by their peers. Dicheck earned NJAC Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive year after continuing the Lions’ 25-season unbeaten streak in conference play which spans the entire history of women’s tennis in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Since the inception of women’s tennis as a conference sport back in 1982, TCNJ has posted a 121-0 record in league competition, including a mark of 39-0 under Dicheck’s leadership. In eight seasons as the helm of the TCNJ women’s tennis program, Dicheck has guided the Lions to an overall mark of 77-20.

Morris, who earned NJAC Coach of the Year honors in 2005, guided Rutgers-Newark to an 8-4 overall record, including a third place finish in the NJAC with a 3-2 league mark. In five seasons at the helm of the Scarlet Raider program, Morris has produced an overall record of 34-28.
