MSU’s ELLERSON NAMED NJAC BASEBALL

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Montclair State University sophomore shortstop Brian Ellerson (Hudson Catholic/Bayonne) is the

New Jersey Athletic Conference’s 2000 Player of the Year.  Currently on a 20-game hitting streak,

Ellerson is batting .463 heading into the NJAC tournament.  His Red Hawk team is the top seed in the

tournament, and will face #4 William Paterson University in the 4:00pm opening game on Friday night at

Yogi Bera Stadium.  The 7:30pm game will feature #2 Rowan University versus #3 The College of New Jersey.

 

Pitcher of the Year is right-handed teammate Greg Belson (Tottenville HS/Staten Island, NY),

a senior who currently leads the NJAC in pitching victories with a perfect 9-0 record.  He also has 4 saves to

his credit.

 

The Fireman of the Year award goes to Rowan University’s Jeff Kalber (Washington Twp./Sewell, NJ),

a left-handed junior who posted a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings of relief.

 

Rookie of the Year honors are shared by Rutger University – Newark’s Shawn Dyckman (Spotswood HS/

Spotswood, NJ) and William Paterson University’s Bryan Graham (Lenape HS/Medford, NJ).

 

Montclair State’s Norm Schoenig is NJAC Coach of the Year.  In his thirteenth year, Schoenig has

guided the Red Hawks to a 17-1 record in the conference this spring, and a 34-4-1 record overall.
