SALEM, VAD3football.com announced on December 19 that two Montclair State defensive players have been selected as D3football.com All-Americans for the 2009 season. MSU senior defensive back Dominique Dixon was selected as a second-team All-American, while Red Hawk senior defensive tackle Chris Merkle was tapped as a third-time All-American selection.

MONTERREY, MEXICO—Kean senior defensive tackle Darryl Jackson has been selected as a team captain for Team Stars and Stripes for the 2009 Tazon de Estrellas (Tazon Bowl) on December 19. The captains were chosen by the 52 Division III players themselves based on performances and leadership shown during the team’s time in Mexico.

CAPE COD (MA)—The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced on December 16 that Buffalo State freshman linebacker Eddie Weiser was selected as the ECAC Southeast Football Rookie of the Year. Weiser was one of 13 NJAC football players who were named ECAC Division III Southeast Region All-Star for the 2009 season. All selections were made by ECAC staff members.

MONTCLAIR—The American Football Coaches Association announced on December 15 that Montclair State senior defensive back Dominique Dixon has earned a spot on the organization’s 2009 NCAA Division III All-America Team. Dixon becomes the 11th player in MSU history to be honored by the AFCA and the first since 1993.

DEPTFORD–Rowan senior linebacker Andrew Yezzi and junior defensive end Matt Hoffman were honored at the Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey’s 42nd Annual Awards Banquet on December 9. Yezzi was presented with the Rowan University Player of the Year Award, while Hoffman was presented with the Person of the Year Award. The players were accompanied by Rowan head coach Jay Accorsi and associate head coach/defensive coordinator Pat Lancetta.

GLASSBORO–-Rowan junior defensive end Matt Hoffman donated blood stem cells on November 16 as part of the National Marrow Donor Program. Hoffman was selected as a matching donor to help cure a 52-year-old man suffering from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. By electing to go forward with the potential life-saving donation on November 16, Hoffman sacrificed participating in the final game of his junior season, Rowan’s season-ending victory over rival TCNJ.

UNION--Senior nose tackle Darryl Jackson has been selected to play in a pair of senior all-star games, first as a member of Team USA for the 2009 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars), and most recently for the East Coast Bowl following a four-year career for the Kean football team.
