Chadd Barnes, Rutgers-Newark Sophomore, Guard Newark, NJ/University
Barnes earns the final NJAC Player of the Week selection, his second of the season, after averaging 31.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game in a pair of ECAC Metro NY/NJ Tournament contests for Rutgers-Newark. He opened the week by posting 22 points, three rebounds, and two steals in the fourth-seeded Scarlet Raiders’ 82-73 victory over fifth-seed Farmingdale State He wrapped up his sophomore season by collecting a career-high 40 points on 9-of-17 shooting from three-point range, while adding three rebounds and five steals in Newark’s 82-72 semifinal road loss to top-seeded New York University. His nine treys set a new NYU Coles Center record and marked the most three-point field goals made by an NJAC player on the season. A first-team all-conference selection, Barnes finished the season ranked second in the NJAC in three-point field goals made per game (2.79).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Deshawn Singleton, Rutgers-Newark Freshman, Forward Passaic, NJ/Passaic
Singleton earns the final NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, his third of the season, after averaging 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in a pair of ECAC Metro NY/NJ Tournament contests for Rutgers-Newark. He first tallied 13 points and nine rebounds in the Raiders’ 82-73 opening round victory over fifth-seeded Farmingdale State. He wrapped up his freshman campaign by collecting nine points and three rebounds in Newark’s 82-72 semifinal road loss to top-seeded and eventual champion NYU. Singleton, who played in 28-of-29 games on the season for Rutgers-Newark, finished the year with an average 7.0 points per game.
