OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK  

 

Rob Gambino, Rutgers University-Camden
Senior, Midfielder
Marlton, NJ/Cherokee

Gambino earns the final NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after notching five points in a 2-0 week for Rutgers-Camden. He recording both game-winning goals in Rutgers-Camden’s hunt for their second straight ECAC Division III Metro Championship title. In a semifinal match-up with Richard Stockton, he netted the game-winning goal in double overtime to earn a 3-2 victory and a spot in the title game. He also contributed an assist on the Raptors’ first goal of that game.  He then headed home the game-winning goal to defeat Drew, 2-1 for the championship crown. For his efforts in the tournament, he was named the Most Valuable Player.  

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK  

Scott Modzelewski, New Jersey City University

Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township

Modzelewski earns the final NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping to lead the Gothic Knights to a pair of victories in the NCAA Championship Tournament. He was part of a defense that allowed only 12 shots on goal in two NCAA games. His most important contribution came at 23:35 of the first half of NJCU’s 4-1 win over Hamilton in the NCAA Second Round. Off a free kick cross, he netted a header inside the left post for his second goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.  The Gothic Knights did not surrender a goal in his 176 minutes on the field during the two NCAA Tournament games.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK  

Andre Viola, New Jersey City University

A Week 7 Defensive Player of the Week selection, Viola earns the final NJAC Rookie of the Week honor after helping to lead the Gothic Knights to a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament. In a 2-0 first round victory over Castleton State, he made four saves for his 11th shutout of the season. One day later in a 4-1 second round win over Hamilton,  he stopped six shots, and had a shutout going for 89:18 until it was broken up with NJCU’s starting defense out of the game. Combined in two NCAA Tournament games, Viola posted a 0.50 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
