EAST RUTHERFORD--New Jersey City University head women’s soccer coach Robert Bielan will start at sweeper on September 18 for the Jersey City Fire Department soccer team in The DiNardo Family Cup, competing in honor of late Jersey City police officer Marc DiNardo, who was killed in the line of duty in July.
The game, which will be played at Giants Stadium prior to a Major League Soccer game between the New York Red Bulls and New England Revolution, will directly benefit the DiNardo Children’s Scholarship Fund. There will be several teams comprised of local law enforcement, fire and corrections officers playing in the event.
When not coaching the Gothic Knights, Bielan, in his fourth year as NJCU head coach, is a professional firefighter for the Bayonne Fire Department.
After the game, there will be an Interactive Children’s Zone, leading up to the Red Bulls game at 7:30 PM. At halftime of the MLS game, there will be special halftime recognition for those playing in the DiNardo Family Cup.
