Rowan University senior shortstop Stephanie Allocco (Sayreville War Memorial HS/Parlin, NJ) is the
New Jersey Athletic Conference’s White Division Softball
Player of the Year. Jen Barletta
(Bishop Ahr HS/
Edison, NJ), a junior first baseman from New Jersey City University, is the NJAC’s Blue Division Player of the Year.
Allocco hit .455 for the season, leading the Profs to a runner-up finish in the NJAC championship game.
Barletta led the conference in both hitting (.483) and RBIs (1.30/game, 48 total).
In the White Division, other award winners include:
Pitcher of the Year: Sophomore Mandy Schenck (Edison HS/Edison, NJ) of The College of New Jersey.
Schenck led the conference in pitching victories (18-2) and strike-outs per 7 innings (7.82), and was eighth in ERA
(1.71). She led the Lions to the NJAC championship in the 2-1 win over Rowan in the conference championship
game, earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Rookie of the Year: Jen Kichula (Hightstown HS/Hightstown, NJ) of The College of New Jersey. The Lions’
starting catcher, Kichula hit .362 for the season.
Coach of the Year: Sally Miller of The College of New Jersey. In her fifth year as head coach of the Lions,
Miller has guided the team to a 32-7-1 record going into the NCAA tournament.
In the Blue Division, other award winners include:
Pitcher of the Year: Sophomore Patty Kern (Immaculate Heart HS/Denvine, NJ) of Richard Stockton College.
With a 9-4 record, she started 14 of 17 games for the Ospreys, averaging 4.73 strikeouts per seven innings.
Her ERA of 1.58 was fourth best in the conference.
Rookie of the Year: Laure Burman (Gloucester Catholic HS/Gloucester, NJ) of Rutgers University Camden.
Burman starred as both pitcher and shortstop for the Scarlet Raptors. On the mound Burman averaged 5.04 K’s per
seven innings; at bat she hit .429, #9 in the conference.
Coach of the Year: Dave Salvatore of New Jersey City University. In his third season at the helm at NJCU,
Salvatore led the Gothic Knights to a 20-17 overall record, 6-2 in conference play.
