PLAYER OF THE WEEK  

 

Jackie Ferranti, Montclair State University
Senior, Third Baseman

Ferranti earns NJAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after hitting .450 with two home runs, five RBI, and seven runs scored during the Red Hawks’ five-game run to the 2008 NJAC Tournament Championship. She opened the week by going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in MSU’s 6-5 opening round win over William Paterson. Three days later, she belted a two-run home run in the Red Hawks’ 2-1 second round win over Rowan, before going 3-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored in an 8-1 third round win over Kean. The NJAC Co-Player of the Year, she posted a slugging percentage of .800 and an on-base percentage of .522 while leading the Red Hawks to their fist NJAC title in 11 years. The current league leader in hitting with a .444 batting average, Ferranti also leads the NJAC in seven different offensive statistical categories.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK  

Carolyn McCrea, Montclair State University
Senior, Right-handed Pitcher

McCrea earns NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season and the second consecutive week after going 4-1 in five starts including a pair of victories on championship day to lead the Red Hawks to their first NJAC crown since 1997. In total, she surrendered just 25 hits and seven runs in 33.2 innings of total work during the tournament. On championship day, she tossed her third no-hitter of the season to help MSU avoid elimination with a 1-0 win over TCNJ. Forty-five minutes later, she scattered seven hits over six innings while striking out four as MSU claimed the NJAC title with a 6-1 victory over the Lions. The 2008 NJAC Pitcher of the Year, she recorded her 73rd career victory with the championship clinching win, tying the all-time MSU record for victories. McCrea currently leads the NJAC in earned run average with a mark of 0.94.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK  

Rachel Wong, Ramapo College
Freshman, Outfielder

Wong earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season after hitting .500 (5-for-10) during three games of the 2008 NJAC Tournament. She hit safely in all three contests, and wrapped up the tournament with a 3-for-4 performance with a RBI in a 3-2 third round eight-inning loss to Kean. Wong currently ranks ninth overall in the NJAC in situational hitting with two outs (.389).

ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE WEEK  

Courtney Smyth, Kean University
Freshman, Right-handed Pitcher
Abington, PA/Abington

Smyth earns NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season after appearing in a pair of games for the Cougars during the 2008 NJAC Tournament. She first scattered seven hits in five innings of work while striking out five in Kean’s 8-7 second round eight-inning win over William Paterson. One day later, she wrapped up her first NJAC Tournament by scattering six hits in 2.1 innings of work during the Cougars’ 8-1 third round loss to eventual champion Montclair State. Smyth currently ranks fifth in the NJAC in wins with 14 on the season.
